Lions Gate to Release Divergent on DVD and Blu-Ray - Analyst Blog

Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. LGF recently announced that it will release Divergent's first installment on DVD (plus digital), Blu-ray Combo Pack (Digital HD and plus DVD), Pay-Per-View and Video on Demand on Aug 5, 2014. However, on Digital HD, this blockbuster flick will be available from Jul 22.

The film is based on the best-selling book series written by famous author Veronica Roth that sold almost 22 million copies globally. The action adventure talks about the story of a teenager who lives in a society where everyone must fall into any of its 5 different sections, or they are considered dangerous.

Starring Theo James, Ashley Judd, debut actors like Shailene Woodley and award-winning actor Kate Winslet, the movie has already earned roughly $150 million at the domestic box office. Moreover, in its theatrical release under Lionsgate's Summit Entertainment label, the movie has grossed over $250 million internationally.

The Blu-ray Combo Pack will be a major attraction for viewers, as it includes special features like the documentary "Bringing Divergent to Life," which gives an insight into the making of the film. It also includes "Faction Before Blood", which is concentrated on the movie's future world.

Moreover, DVD and Blu-ray Combo Pack will contain deleted scenes as well as audio commentaries by the film's producers Lucy Fisher and Douglas Wick and director Neil Burger.

These additional features are likely to augment the success of Lions Gate's upcoming release. The next three installments titled Insurgent, Allegiant Part 1 and Allegiant Part 2 are slated to be in the theatres on Mar 20, 2015, Mar 18, 2016 and Mar 24, 2017, respectively.
