Shaw Communications Enhances Kids Content - Analyst Blog

Shaw Communications Inc. SJR recently added three new apps to the Shaw Go Kid portfolio. Both Shaw Cable and Shaw Direct subscribers can easily access these apps to watch their favorite shows from home or away.

These new apps are mainly designed for children who can see their favorite Disney shows on multiple platforms like PCs, smartphones and tablets. These apps can easily be downloaded from Google, Inc.'s Android and Apple, Inc.'s iOS operating system. Moreover, the subscribers can download it from Shaw's official site.

The Shaw Go Disney Junior app is perfectly suited for children aged between two to seven years as it allows easy navigation . While for the teens and tween age groups, the Family and Disney XD apps are the best as it offers better video streaming, despite of Internet connection and speed.

While,  the Family and Disney XD apps are suitable for the teens and tween age groups as they offer  better video streaming, irrespective of Internet speed. Moreover, it offers a video bookmarking feature which allows pause and play-back of programs. However, to access videos, the children will require parental guidance for the PIN entry.

Recently, the company reported second-quarter fiscal 2014 financial results where both the top and the bottom line surpassed the respective Zacks Consensus Estimate. The company lost 20,758 video customers in the reported quarter. However, Shaw Communications added 12,767 Internet customers in the same quarter.

Hence, we believe that launch of such apps will not only counter video subscriber loss but will also safeguard its position against large telecom players like Rogers Communications Inc. RCI, Telus Corp. TU and BCE Inc. BCE.
