Apple CEO Tim Cook to unveil iPhone 5 on October 4

A new report from AllThingsD says that Apple is currently planning to hold a media event to unveil the iPhone 5 on October 4.

Tuesday, Oct. 4.

That's the day Apple is currently expected to hold its next big media event, according to sources close to the situation, where the tech giant will unveil the next iteration of its popular iPhone.

Not only does AllThingsD's John Paczkowski report the date of the event, he also notes that new CEO Tim Cook will give the introduction for the new smartphone. This would mark Cook's first ever major product announcement with Apple. The report also notes that Cook is expected to be the main presenter for all other major Apple media events in the future. 

Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been the presenter for all iPhone announcements in the past, with the exception of the iPhone 3GS in 2009. While Jobs was on leave in 2009 Senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller have the announcement for the iPhone 3GS. With Jobs now officialyl gone from CEO many people look to see if Cook have give the same great performance as Jobs has in the past.

Apple is not only expected to announce the iPhone 5 in October. Other announcements are expected to be the official release of iOS 5 and iCloud. Apple is also expected to released a new update to its iPod product line.
