Today, August 6, 2011, marks the twentieth birthday of the World Wide Web (WWW). On the same day back in 1991, one scientist, Tim Berners-Lee, at the European Organization for Nuclear Research revealed a project that he called the "World Wide Web" - it was a way to organize information.
The first webpage published to the Internet was simply a placeholder and has been mirrored today to show how the Internet looked back in 1991.
Twenty years ago, there was no Google, YouTube, Facebook, Gmail, etc. Nobody even had thoughts for that twenty years ago - the Internet was simply a place to hold information for others to access. Since then, the Web has expanded into a place to game, social network, research, and more.
According to this website, there are currently 17.91 billion webpages on the Internet today.
