This Friday The Echo Boom Bomb features a special end of the week Oph Topik post.

Reports have surfaced that the rating agency, Standard and Poors, may downgrade the U.S. debt to AA+ or AA. Would this move surprise anyone?

These graphs go along with my earlier post this week, United States = Bankrupt? Keep in mind, these graphs from Wikipedia are not as up-to-date as the economic information in the post's video.

Update: As of 8:00 PM CT, the S&P downgraded the United States to AA+. For the record, I think that the U.S. deserves a downgrade, but on the other hand, I agree with Paul Krugman that we must consider that S&P rated the MBS as AAA before the housing debacle. The irony here being the ones who rate and the ones who are rated have very little - if any - credibility.
