Windows Phone 7 "Mango" released to manufacturing

Microsoft announced via the Windows Phone Blog that its newest update to Windows Phone 7, dubbed "Mango," has reached the release to manufacturing (a.k.a. "RTM") stage. This means that the OS is nearly finalized and unless there are any show-stopping issues that creep up, that is the final shipping build. Mango is scheduled to begin appearing on handsets worldwide sometime this Fall.

The Windows Phone 7 Mango update sports several enhancements and new features, including:

  • Internet Explorer 9 with improved HTML 5 support
  • Multitasking for apps
  • Combination of text messages, IM's, and Facebook Chat into one; dubbed Threads
  • Conversation view for emails
