Google launches their answer to Groupon: Google Offers

Do you remember back in January when we reported that Google was developing their own service to rival Groupon and LivingSocial? Well, today that service officially launched and is dubbed “Google Offers.” Google Offers is undoubtedly the search giant's answer to Groupon (especially after the acquisition fell through) and works like this: users who sign up for the service would receive emails daily with local deals. They would then have a specific amount of time to act on that deal (likely 24 hours).

Google promises “50% off or more at places you'll love” if you use Offers. Google Offers is currently available in a few select cities in the U.S. (Portland is the only one that is an actual beta, but no offers are available just yet) and you can sign up for the service at http://google.com/offers.

What do you think about Google Offers? Does it have some potential?
