Users of the PlayStation Network have been reporting over the past several hours that they have had troubles logging into the network from their PlayStation console. Sony has commented on its PlayStation Blog, stating “We're [Sony] aware certain functions of PlayStation Network are down. We will report back here as soon as we can with more information.” This message was actually posted yesterday evening, over twelve hours ago.

Sony updated its users via the PlayStation Blog once again today, giving the following statement:

While we are investigating the cause of the Network outage, we wanted to alert you that it may be a full day or two before we're able to get the service completely back up and running. Thank you very much for your patience while we work to resolve this matter. Please stay tuned to this space for more details, and we'll update you again as soon as we can.

At this time, Sony isn't giving what the root cause of the issue is. Are you affected by this? Or could you care less?

For those of you who haven't been following It's All Tech over the past 24 hours, you may not know that the PlayStation Network is just the next thing on the Internet to fall victim to downtime. Yesterday, Apple was experiencing widespread issues with the iTunes Store/App Store, as well as MobileMe outages. Today, a massive Amazon EC2 server outage has caused some of the Internet's most popular websites (such as HootSuite and Formspring) to shut down until the issue is resolved.
