Nigel Farage, the former leader of the Brexit Party, has reportedly been offered a position in Donald Trump&#8216;s U.S. re-election campaign.
What Happened: Farage, who has been contemplating a new role in the U.S., disclosed during an interview with U.K. broadcaster Talk that he has received a &#8220;very firm job offer&#8221; from America. The role, though undisclosed, would see him playing a significant part in Trump&#8217;s election campaign, <a href="https://www.politico.eu/article/nigel-farage-gets-donald-trump-job-offer-us-election-campaign/">reported</a> Politico.
&#8220;It's a confidential offer, obviously, but it would be very heavily involved with the election campaign,&#8221; said Farage.
After stepping down from his populist Reform U.K. party in 2021, Farage has turned his attention to broadcasting, hosting a show on the right-leaning GB News. His political future has been a subject of conjecture in Westminster, with rumors of a possible return to lead the challenger party Reform.

When asked about their presence, Trump stated, &#8220;They think it's a terrible thing that is happening to democracy in this country.&#8221;
Trump also read from a document for approximately five minutes, which included comments from Republican lawmakers, legal pundits, and cable television commentators who expressed doubts about the case or defended the former president.
The case against Trump pertains to allegations of falsifying 34 business records related to a $130,000 hush money payment Cohen made to a porn actor to prevent her from discussing an alleged affair with Trump during his 2016 campaign.

What Happened: GameStop investor Keith Gill, also known as &#8220;Roaring Kitty&#8221; on social media and YouTube, and DeepF&#x2A;&#x2A;&#x2A;ingValue on Reddit, made<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/05/38787490/gamestop-shares-surge-as-roaring-kitty-resurfaces-after-3-year-silence"> his return to social media </a>on May 12, 2024.
The X, formerly known as Twitter, <a href="https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty">account </a>of &#8220;Roaring Kitty&#8221; shared a meme on Sunday and went on to post 11<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/gaming/24/05/38798005/roaring-kitty-doubles-down-posts-new-videos-on-x-sending-gamestops-stock-higher"> videos with clips</a> from famous movies and words on screen, as of the time of writing.
GameStop stock soared in response to the posts and &#8220;Roaring Kitty's&#8221; return with shares closing up 74.40% to $30.45 Monday at market close and hitting new 52-week highs of $38.20 during the intraday session.
In 2021, GameStop stock had its moment in the spotlight with a short squeeze of epic proportions that saw retail traders buy shares and fight against hedge funds who had shorted the stock in an epic battle akin to David vs. Goliath.
The storyline was turned into several documentaries and docuseries and also inspired the book "The Antisocial Network: The GameStop Short Squeeze and the Ragtag Group of Amateur Traders That Brought Wall Street to its Knees" by Ben Mezrich.
Sony Group Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SONY#NYSE">SONY</a>)<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/23/06/32975000/gamestop-film-dumb-money-stars-paul-dano-pete-davidson-seth-rogen-cast-details-first-traile"> released a theatrical film</a>, &#8220;Dumb Money,&#8221; based on Mezrich's book on Sept. 15, 2023.
With GameStop shares trading at $18.61 at the time of the theatrical release, an investor could have bought 53.73 GME shares with $1,000. That $1,000 investment would be worth $1,687.12 today, up 68.7% in eight months.
Compare that to the +16.1% return of the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust, which tracks the S&amp;P 500 over the same time period.

Why It's Important: The theatrical release sparked optimism that GameStop shares could rally and see old and new investors get attached to the video game stock once again.

The movie grossed $13.9 million domestically and $20.7 million worldwide according to data from <a href="https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt13957560/?ref_=bo_se_r_1">BoxOfficeMojo</a>. The film starred Paul Dano as Gill and also featured actors including Pete Davidson, Vincent D'Onofrio, America Ferrera, Seth Rogen, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan and Nick Offerman.

Questions remain if Gill will continue to make posts on X, return to making videos on YouTube and if the rally in GameStop stock can be sustained.
The ending of "Dumb Money" previously said Gill "retreated from public life." Based on his social media posts, he could be returning to the spotlight.

 What Happened: Trump and Biden are the likely contenders facing off against each other in the 2024 presidential election, in what will be a rematch of the 2020 election won by Biden. <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/sports-betting/24/04/38417836/trump-and-biden-get-ready-2024-election-betting-odds-point-to-major-showdown">Betting odds</a> and most election polls point to a close race.
Deciding factors for the election could include young voters, voter turnout and the results of several <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/swing-states">key swing states.</a>
A new Siena College/New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/13/us/politics/biden-trump-battleground-poll.html">poll </a>shows the results of how voters in six key swing states would vote if the election were held today.
The results are:
Arizona: 42% Biden, 49% Trump
Georgia: 39% Biden, 49% Trump
Michigan: 42% Biden, 49% Trump
Nevada: 38% Biden, 50% Trump
Pennsylvania: 44% Biden, 47% Trump
Wisconsin: 47% Biden, 45% Trump
The results see Trump leading in five of the six key states, with dominant leads in several of the states. Biden leads in the state of Wisconsin by a two-point margin.
The poll showed that when voters who said they were likely to vote in the 2024 election were included, Biden leads two states, gaining the state of Michigan.
Including independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a possible selection also saw a similar results with Trump winning five of the six states.

Why It's Important: The poll finds that many voters are still uneasy about the current state of the economy and it could be influencing their 2024 presidential election vote.
Poll findings show that many Americans feel uneasy having Biden in a second term and seeking to have a return to normalcy. Around 25% of voters list the economy and the cost of living as the top issue in the 2024 election.
Around 50% of those polled said that the economy is "poor," which is similar to the same poll conducted back in November. Even with inflation easing and the stock market trading higher, American voters see the economy as negative and a deciding factor in potentially voting against Biden.
Many voters see Trump doing a better job in leading the country when it comes to the economy according to the poll.
Around 70% of those polled said the country's political and economic systems need major changes.
Most swing state polls from other outlets have included seven states with the six mentioned above and the state of North Carolina.
A recent swing state poll of the seven states <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/04/38537950/trump-vs-biden-former-president-holds-lead-in-all-7-swing-states-which-candidate-does-robert-f-k">from Emerson College</a> showed Trump leading in all the key voter markets. Trump's lead was one point in several territories, suggesting a close race.
These <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/03/37884006/trump-vs-biden-key-swing-states-arizona-nevada-michigan-wisconsin-show-close-races-heres-the-rol" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">seven swing states&nbsp;</a>together represent 93 electoral votes in the 2024 election. Six of the seven swing states were won by Biden in the 2020 election, with Trump winning North Carolina. Five of the seven swing states won by Biden in 2020 flipped from Trump's win in 2016, including Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin.

The move, undertaken by the Joint Committee On Agency Rule Review (JCARR), puts Ohio adults one step closer to being able to legally purchase cannabis in dispensaries and shops, following <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/23/11/35664155/ohio-legalizes-cannabis-and-overwhelmingly-approves-abortion-rights">last November's legalization</a> of recreational marijuana.
A separate rule also cleared on Monday noted existing dispensaries seeking dual licensees need to fill out and present applications no later than June 7. If approved they will be allowed to sell to medical marijuana patients as well as adults, <a href="https://www.cleveland.com/news/2024/05/coming-soon-recreational-marijuana-dispensary-applications-go-live-in-june-after-state-panel-oks-rule.html">noted</a> Cleveland.com.
Rep. Jamie Callender (R), vice chair of JCARR and outspoken <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/23/08/34119078/gop-disputes-and-a-few-threats-notwithstanding-ohioans-of-all-stripes-support-legal-cannabis">supporter of legal cannabis</a>, thanked the head of the Division of Cannabis Control (DCC) for "the work you've put in on this — for doing this timely and to help move forward the will of the voters, and we look forward to watching these rules go into effect in a couple of weeks."
Callender, who <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/04/38193598/gop-congressman-in-ohio-says-retail-weed-sales-to-begin-before-july-4th-weekend-collective-joy-e">said in April </a>that sales should begin at least on July 4, added that regulators assured him that they would have applications online before the new rules' June 7 deadline and he's optimistic that sales will begin by mid-June.
James Canepa, who was selected to serve as the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/03/38008197/gop-bickers-over-legal-marijuana-program-in-ohio-as-cleveland-cannabis-school-becomes-first-in-n">first superintendent</a> of the DCC, previously said the legislature's delayed action could complicate regulators' work to effectively stand up the new market.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">It's Been A Slog</h1>
As of just one month ago, Ohio House leaders said the legislature could not and likely would not find common ground on how and when to move legal cannabis forward.
For months, Republican Gov. Mike DeWine, who is not now nor has even been a supporter of marijuana legalization, nevertheless routinely urged lawmakers to pass regulations and get the show on the road. 
"What we don&#8217;t want is a situation where the black market grows and we don&#8217;t want a situation really where people don&#8217;t know what the rules are, and we just need to get this done,&#8221; Gov DeWine said at several points and in various ways during the negotiations between the state GOP-dominated House and Senate.

To address their environmental impacts, Coca-Cola has pledged to make its packaging fully recyclable by 2025 and to use at least 50% recycled materials by 2030. Similarly, PepsiCo and Nestl&eacute; are pushing for stronger global policies on plastic waste management.

"We do have quite a bit of inventory, and it's fresh and good," <a href="https://vineyardgazette.com/news/2024/05/03/islands-only-marijuana-grower-close" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">said</a> Benjamin Zachs, president of Connecticut-based Fine Fettle. He estimated the dispensary would deplete its inventory and likely close by this fall.
