Residents in parts of the East Coast could get another chance to see the jellyfish-like glowing plume created by Space Exploration Technologies Corp.‘s (NASDAQ:SPCX) Falcon 9 rocket launch on Monday from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
SpaceX’s Bandwagon-5 rideshare mission from Florida will see the Falcon 9 rocket deliver 32 payloads, including the Starfall reentry vehicle and 31 customer payloads, according to SpaceX’s official website. The launch window begins at 6:30 a.m. ET., with a backup opportunity available on Tuesday, October 20th.
According to a post by influencer Mario Nawfal on the social media platform X last week, SpaceX’s previous Falcon 9 launch from Florida also created a similar effect.
A report by Forbes on October 13 explains that the Jellyfish-like effect is caused during launches near dusk or dawn when the ground is in darkness and the exhaust plume from the launch expands and catches light from the sun, which is still below the horizon, causing the effect.
