Shield Debuts as the First Application Built on the SDK, Launching Alongside Aztec v5

human.tech today announced the launch of the Clean SDK, a programmable toolkit that enables developers to build applications with privacy by default and transparent accountability. The Clean SDK addresses one of Web3's longest-standing challenges: enabling privacy without sacrificing accountability. Rather than forcing developers to choose between user confidentiality and regulatory expectations, the SDK combines zero-knowledge proofs with programmable verification, allowing applications to prove that users are legitimate participants and that funds have passed sanctions screening while keeping personal identities private.

Launching alongside the SDK is Shield, the first application built on the Clean SDK. Shield is a privacy-preserving, accountable bridge to Aztec that demonstrates how developers can use the SDK to create private financial applications. Users and autonomous agents can bridge assets into Aztec while proving, in zero knowledge, that a real, unique human is behind every transfer and that deposited funds have been screened against sanctions sources, all without revealing their identity. Shield's contracts were independently audited by Nethermind in May 2026, with all issues resolved.

The Clean SDK provides three core verification mechanisms: sanctions screening (Proof of Innocence), human verification (Proof of Personhood), and zero-knowledge identity verification (Proof of Clean Hands). Proof of Innocence screens wallets and funds against 23 sanctions sources at both deposit and withdrawal. Proof of Personhood enables lightweight verification through Human Passport, while Proof of Clean Hands provides higher-assurance verification through zero-knowledge government identity credentials for higher-value transactions. Together, these capabilities allow applications to verify users and transactions without exposing personal information or storing plaintext PII.

Designed for builders on Aztec, the SDK enables developers to integrate programmable privacy directly into decentralized applications instead of engineering identity verification, sanctions screening, and zero-knowledge infrastructure independently. Applications built with the Clean SDK can offer users confidential transactions while maintaining transparent accountability through cryptographic proofs.

Shield serves as the flagship implementation of the Clean SDK, showcasing how these capabilities work together in production. While Shield focuses on private bridging between Ethereum and Aztec, the SDK is designed to support a broad range of financial applications, autonomous agents, and decentralized services requiring privacy-preserving verification.

The launch also reflects growing demand for institutional infrastructure that balances privacy with transparent accountability.
