Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has been heavily criticized on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) after hurling an insult at President Joe Biden on Friday.
What Happened: Greene, on Friday, referred to the President as an “old fart” in response to Biden’s announcement of the new Office of Gun Violence Prevention within the White House.
The President had tweeted about the urgent need to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Biden’s statement apparently incensed Greene, who replied with the derogatory remark, “Whatever you old fart. We are electing a new President. Turning 45 into 47.”

The Georgia representative’s disrespectful comment sparked a backlash on social media platform X. This follows Greene’s recent complaints about the absence of “society’s standards that set etiquette and respect for our institutions”.
Many users called out Greene’s hypocrisy, criticizing her for demanding respect from others while simultaneously failing to show it herself.
Why It Matters: Greene, for sometime, has been emphasizing the need for civility in others while not adhering to it herself. On Monday, when she criticized Senator John Fetterman for wearing a hoodie on the Senate floor, he pointed out that decorum takes various forms. He reminded her of the occasion when she displayed explicit images of Hunter Biden during a House hearing.
In May, Greene experienced firsthand how her Democratic colleagues responded to her call for decorum when they burst into laughter after she reminded them to follow the House’s decorum rules.
