President Joe Biden’s nearly 2-year-old German shepherd, Commander, has been involved in at least 10 incidents of “aggressive behavior,” including biting several Secret Service agents, one of whom required hospital treatment, The New York Times reports.

Commander’s Adjustment Issues

Internal emails obtained by a conservative watchdog group reveal that Commander has had difficulty adjusting to life at the White House and the Bidens’ two homes in Delaware since his arrival in 2021.

At least six of the incidents involving Commander were bites that led to some sort of medical attention being given, according to the emails, seen by the Times. Other incidents were reportedly played down as “playful” or resulted in no punctured skin.

Continued Concerns

A White House spokesperson said that the Bidens have partnered with the Secret Service for “additional leashing protocols and training” to reign in Commander, according to the report.

“The White House complex is a unique and often stressful environment for family pets, and the first family is working through ways to make this situation better for everyone,” said the spokesperson.
