Mortal Kombat 1, the highly anticipated addition to the iconic Mortal Kombat video game franchise, is set to hit the global gaming market on Sept. 19, 2023.

Alongside this announcement, developer NetherRealm and publisher Warner Bros. Games, a division Warner Bros Discovery Inc. (NASDAQ:WBD), revealed the Nintendo Switch port of Mortal Kombat 1 will share the same $70 price tag as its counterparts on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

It's worth noting the title will be the first game developed by an external publisher to adopt the higher price point of $70 on Nintendo ADR's (OTC:NTDOY) console.

The first game to surpass the $60 pricing barrier on Switch was The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The game's exceptional sales performance, becoming the fastest-selling Zelda title to date, demonstrated the market's acceptance of the higher price point.

Nintendo clarified that not all games will follow suit, as Pikmin 4, set to launch in July, will retail at the traditional $60 price.

Meanwhile, the industry is gradually shifting from the traditional $60 price point to the higher $70 price tag for new blockbuster titles.

Sega Sammy Holdings Inc - ADR (OTC:SGAMY) recently announced it was contemplating a move to increase game prices to $70 for "next-gen" consoles, following the steps of companies like Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc's (NASDAQ:TTWO) 2K Games and Square Enix Holdings Co Ltd (OTC:SQNXF).

Mortal Kombat players who opt for the Premium Edition or Kollector's Edition will have early access to the game starting on Sept. 14, 2023, prior to the official release. Pre-ordering on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S grants access to the Mortal Kombat 1 Beta in August 2023.
