Donald Trump’s niece Mary Trump took to Twitter after her uncle was arrested on Tuesday and said that a lot was learned on the day about the “seriousness of the charges.”
What Happened: Mary praised the “professionalism” of Manhattan Attorney General Alvin Bragg in her tweet. She began her tweet by saying “History Made!”
She noted that TV cameras weren’t allowed in the courtroom but there was a brief glimpse of the former president walking into the courtroom.
“Five seconds of it, was all we needed to figure out his state of mind,” wrote Mary. She said, “During that brief glimpse, we saw the uncertainty, the fear, and the humiliation.”
“The false bravado will return, and the middle-of-the-night posts will continue to be unhinged but Donald Trump has finally gotten a glimpse of what it looks like when his past, finally, at long last, catches up with him—and he'll never be able to outrun it.”
Why It Matters: Mary also featured law professor Jennifer Taub on her podcast “The Mary Trump Show” to discuss the arraignment of her uncle.
Taub called the indictment, which was unsealed on Tuesday, “bold and important.” She said, “What I saw in the first paragraph was tax evasion, what I saw throughout the document (the statement of facts) was that this entire scheme was designed to mislead the American people.”
“Donald Trump has committed fraud throughout his life and this is a perfectly reasonable series of 34 different counts to bring and this will play out among the many other indictments that we will see against him shortly.”
The charges against Trump originate from an investigation into hush money payments paid to an adult film star weeks before the 2016 election count as falsifying business records and a violation of campaign finance law, according to a prior report.
Trump slammed Democrats and the Biden Administration in a speech he gave after returning to Mar-a-Lago after being arraigned in New York on Tuesday. He called the case fake and an attempt to interfere with the upcoming presidential election.
