- Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) shares surged 9.5 percent to $50.75 after the company reported stronger-than-expected earnings for its fourth quarter. Wedbush upgraded Oracle from Neutral to Outperform.
- Zion Oil & Gas, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZN) shares jumped 9 percent to $2.67.
- Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) shares climbed 6.2 percent to $6.90 after the company reported a narrower-than-expected loss for its fourth quarter.
- Mechel PAO (ADR) (NYSE:MTL) shares rose 6.2 percent to $4.48.
- Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS) shares gained 6.1 percent to $9.19 on chatter that the company is targeted for an acquisition. Sycamore Partners, a private equity giant, is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire the office supply retailer, Reuters reported. The deal could value Staples at more than $6 billion, a premium to Staples' valuation of $5.60 billion as of Wednesday's market close.
- ZIOPHARM Oncology Inc. (NASDAQ:ZIOP) shares rose 4.8 percent to $6.17 after gaining 1.90 percent on Wednesday.
- CarMax, Inc (NYSE:KMX) climbed 4.7 percent to $62.56. RBC Capital upgraded CarMax from Sector Perform to Outperform.
- Teekay Corporation (NYSE:TK) rose 4.6 percent to $5.50 after falling 1.13 percent on Wednesday.
- Brinker International, Inc. (NYSE:EAT) gained 3.2 percent to $38.09. BMO Capital upgraded Brinker from Underperform to Market Perform.
- New Residential Investment Corp (NYSE:NRZ) shares rose 3 percent to $16.49. New Residential Investment raised its quarterly dividend from $0.48 to $0.50 per share.
- Edgewell Personal Care Co (NYSE:EPC) gained 2.7 percent to $77.07. Societe Generale upgraded Edgewell Personal Care from Hold to Buy.
