Sony Group Corp. (NYSE:SONY) is gearing up for the release of a more powerful version of its PlayStation 5 (PS5) console, possibly by the end of this year.

According to reports by The Verge, leaked specifications for the upcoming PS5 Pro, codenamed Trinity, reveal significant upgrades aimed at enhancing gaming experiences, particularly in terms of ray tracing and overall performance.

Additionally, it will boast a faster CPU mode, targeting a frequency of 3.85GHz, around 10 percent higher than the regular PS5.

Anticipating The PS5 Pro Launch: Enhanced Features And Developer Collaboration

Sony is reportedly pushing developers to ensure compatibility with the new console, encouraging them to utilize features like ray tracing more extensively. Games optimized for the PS5 Pro may carry a “Trinity Enhanced” label, signifying significant improvements.

Furthermore, the PS5 Pro will offer enhanced system memory, with a 28 percent increase in bandwidth and an additional 1.2GB available for games, totaling 13.7GB. This boost in memory capabilities is expected to support Sony’s new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology, aimed at improving frame rates and image quality through upscaling.

"Sony’s custom PSSR upscaling solution, akin to Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR, will replace traditional anti-aliasing methods in games,” The Verge wrote.

The PS5 Pro launch is anticipated during the holiday season of 2024, following a similar strategy to the PS4’s release of a Slim model followed by a Pro edition.

Expectations include an “‘enhanced’ library of existing games for the PS5 Pro launch and new first-party games arriving over time with improved ray-tracing support for this new console,” The Verge added.
