ChatGPT and Generative AI are the hottest buzzwords of 2023, and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. (OTCPK: SSNLF) seems ready to capitalize on it. The company's next flagship, Galaxy S24, is said to come with ChatGPT-like generative AI features.

What Happened: Samsung has announced plans to introduce AI technology to its Galaxy smartphones in the near future. The Korean tech giant made this announcement during its Q3 earnings call, reported Business Korea.

Samsung’s goal is to integrate on-device generative AI to enable AI-related tasks to be performed directly on the smartphone. This will eliminate the need for an internet connection.

The Galaxy S24 or the Galaxy Z Fold 6 might be among the first devices to showcase this technology.

On-device generative AI that does not require an internet connection will also be a step up from Alphabet Inc.'s (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google Pixel 8, which requires an active internet connection to use generative AI features in the Photos app.

Samsung is also widely expected to use Qualcomm Inc.'s (NASDAQ:QCOM) Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset that comes with a range of AI-specific features, including up to 98% faster performance and a 40% efficiency increase. This chipset would be the perfect launchpad for Samsung’s upcoming AI technology.

However, it's unclear if Samsung will use Microsoft Corp.-backed (NASDAQ:MSFT) OpenAI's ChatGPT or a different solution. Given Samsung's long-standing partnership with Microsoft, though, it won't be a surprise if Galaxy S24 comes with on-device ChatGPT.

Why It Matters: The generative AI technology Samsung plans to incorporate will allow users to access various services without needing to connect to the internet.

This will significantly enhance the functionality and convenience of their devices, potentially giving Samsung an edge in the competitive smartphone market.
