Popular tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee‘s video apparently helped Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) discover an app glitch that doubled the statistics of his solar energy production and usage.

What Happened: Three weeks ago, Brownlee shared a new video in which he reviewed Tesla Solar Roof that shed light on miscalculations around sola output of his Tesla vehicle.

In the video, he spoke about how he hasn’t paid for electricity in a year despite having an electric car, which he charges at home, and many electrical appliances, including computers, game consoles, TVs, and Air Conditioning.

He also discussed how much electricity he generated and how much his house consumed during Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons.

However, what caught netizens’ attention during the weekend was Brownlee’s assertion that this video helped Tesla find a bug in their app.

According to Brownlee, the Tesla app was erroneously reporting double the actual energy production and usage figures.

The discrepancy was significant, as he was under the impression that solar panels were generating a staggering 8,000 kWH of energy a month when, in reality, the correct figure for approximately 4,000 kWH.

The YouTuber further said that the bug did not impact the financial calculations related to his solar investment but prompted a reevaluation of his energy consumption patterns.

So it appears Tesla found a bug in their app after watching my solar video that accidentally counted all production and usage totals as DOUBLE their actual numbers.
