Missouri Courts At Risk Of Not Meeting Constitutional Deadline For Marijuana Expungements

Over 44,000 cannabis cases, out of which more than 10,000 were related to marijuana felony convictions and about 32,500 misdemeanors, have been expunged in recent months, reported KCUR.

Amendment 3, which legalized recreational cannabis in November, proposed the expungement of all nonviolent cannabis-related misdemeanors and felonies by June 8 and December 8, respectively.

However, experts stressed the courts are not equipped to handle those that remain before the deadline.

Pennsylvania Lawmakers Join Movement To End Federal Cannabis Prohibition

PA lawmakers are expected to vote on a measure that would urge officials and agencies nationwide to de-schedule cannabis as a controlled substance, reported ABC27.

The resolution, sponsored by 17 state lawmakers led by Rep. Christopher Rabb (D-Philadelphia), recommends that Congress, President Biden, the Attorney General, the DEA and the Department of Health and Human Services all have to work together to reschedule cannabis from its Schedule I status as a controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act.

"Rescheduling cannabis will establish an important step in harmonizing Federal and State policy to improve public health, reduce criminal justice expenditures, raise tax revenue and usher in economic growth," the resolutions said.

San Francisco's 3-Year Ban On New Cannabis Businesses

At a meeting Tuesday afternoon, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to forbid any new cannabis businesses in the city for the next three years, reported San Francisco Examiner.

The move won't affect already established stores and applicants in the process of being approved.

Ahsha Safaí, author of the bill, said the cannabis sector is facing a multitude of issues, one of which is an excess amount of product and having to compete with the illegal market.

"It's a pause, not a ban," Safaí said, "and ultimately, we can revisit where this is in a few years."
