Did you hear? Clay Matthews was suspended for the entire 2016 season.

If you rely on Facebook Inc FB and its Newsfeed to get your daily dose of what's going on the world you might think Matthews will sit out the entire season for taking a banned substance.

Facebook's Newsfeed offers its users a quick glance of constantly updating news stories. However, fake news sites are displayed side by side real and legitimate news sites.

According to Yahoo Finance, a Facebook page called "Flex News" posted an article titled "Clay Matthews Suspended For 2016 Season?" and was tagged under "ESPN Football" and suspiciously written by "GOPRO."

Seems legit enough for those who just glance at the headlines and don't bother to read the full article, or even check the source.

Naturally, neither ESPN, nor GoPro, not to mention Matthews' Green Bay Packers, are pleased with fake websites creating inaccurate stories that could hurt their brand. However, they aren't worried...yet.

"I wouldn't say this is a big concern," GoPro's SVP of Corporate Communications Jeff Brown told Yahoo Finance. "It's a growing concern. I know this happens — we have contacted Youtube, Facebook and Instagram to take things down in the past. Facebook's great and they take things down right away. They're really responsive."

ESPN's director of communications, Kevin Ota, also told Yahoo Finance the NFL fanbase should be "smart enough" to decipher what is fake content.

For its efforts, a Facebook spokesperson said the company is active in fighting against fake news sites and spammers on its site. In fact, the company has obtained nearly $2 billion in legal judgments.
