US M&A Announced Deals Surpass $1 Trillion For 2014

The US has surpassed the $1 trillion level in Merger & Acquisition deal values for 2014 on 10,705 deals.  The threshold applies to Announced US M&A and does not include canceled deals.  The amount of Announced US M&A deal values is up 77 percent from $565 billion one year ago which was accomplished then with 9,889 deals according to Capital IQ data.  As for canceled deals, in the past 30 days those are up to a total of 37 deals valued over $313 million.  Capital IQ shows a typical US M&A deal valuation this year is 4.1x revenue and 15.9x EBITDA whereas the ones with over $1 billion (130 transactions above that level YTD) see multiples of 4.6x revenues and 15.6x EBITDA.  A majority of deals, 518 out of 738 total, have been between $100 million and $499.9 million.
