Investigations into hacking of Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), and other US firms’ websites have revealed that computers in Chinese schools may have been involved.

A report in the New York Times says that Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Lanxiang Vocational School were two of the institutes seemingly involved in the hacking incidents. However, hackers are adept at disguising their identity by sending commands via quite a few computers en route to the final target so the exact source of attack can never be traced with conviction.

While Google has said that the attacks had started in December, investigations have revealed that the attacks may have begun back in April, 2009. Google alleged that hackers tried to break into gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists. The company has even threatened to pull out of China after the incident.
