PROUD PARTNERS WITH LAST PRISONER PROJECT

SUPPORTING THE IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF MICHAEL THOMPSON

The Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference is proud to partner with the Last Prisoner Project, a team of Cannabis Industry leaders, criminal and social justice advocates, policy and education experts, and leaders in social justice and drug policy reform are committed to freeing every last prisoner of the unjust war on drugs.

Michael’s Story

Michael Thompson has been in prison in Michigan for 25 years for 3 lbs. of cannabis. He is now in his late 60’s, recently diagnosed with diabetes 2 and at risk of contracting Covid-19. Don’t let a cannabis sentence become a death sentence for Michael.

Michael received a Humanitarian Youth Award from the NAACP for his work with troubled youth before he was imprisoned. He also received the keys to the city of Flint when he organized Unity Day, where he led hundreds of youth gang members on a march uniting them for peace. Michael Thompson was an asset to his community and he deserves to regain his freedom.

We urge you to call the Michigan Parole Board TODAY at (517) 373-0270 and demand Michael’s release. His MDOC number is 176309.

You can also go to FREEMICHAELTHOMPSON.COM and follow prompts to email Governor Whitmer to request Michael’s plea for clemency be granted immediately.

URGENT UPDATE: Our worst fears have been realized. Michael Thompson has been hospitalized with COVID-19. At 69 years old and diabetic, we are terrified that Michael will not make it.

It is clear that those in power in Michigan do not believe in the humanity of our incarcerated community members but we need you to show them that we value Michael’s life, and that he doesn’t deserve to die in detention.

PLEASE help Michael by calling the Parole Board and Governor Whitmer to urge them not to return Michael to prison from the hospital. He has already served 25 years for only 3 lbs. of cannabis. Don’t let a nonviolent cannabis sentence become a death sentence for Michael Thompson.
