Gene Munster, a former Wall Street analyst turned venture capitalist, is considered to be a leading authority on augmented reality, virtual reality, robotics, among other new technologies.
On Tuesday, Munster published a brief research report on Snap Inc (NYSE:SNAP)'s newest features to its social media app where he praised one of the new features.

Snap's new features include an infinite snap timer, looped videos, emoji drawing, and a magic eraser that can remove objects from a picture. Among those, the magic eraser excites Munster the most as it is a prime example of diminished reality.
Munster said that augmented reality allows a user to add content to the real world, diminished reality gives users the ability to remove content from the real world. In fact, he expects the concept of diminished reality to gain in popularity over time and coupled with augmented reality gives a "strong mediated reality offering."
Mediated reality will "ultimately result in a better user experience" than each feature as a stand-alone offering.
"Snapchat's combination of both technologies further solidifies its position as a camera company," Munster concluded.
Shares of Snap were trading lower by more than 1 percent Wednesday ahead of its first-ever earnings report as a public company, which is due to be released after the market close.
