October lean hogs are trading at 49.40, up 0.42 cents /lb. December lean hogs are trading at 44.40, up 0.37 cents/lb. February lean hogs are trading at 49.32, up 0.42 cents/lb. Market chatter about the USDA Quarterly All hogs and Pigs report released Friday after the close of trading is making the rounds. Friday's USDA hog slaughter was 435,000 head and Saturday's was 242,000 head. The total slaughter for last week was 2.436 million head, down from 2.466 million the previous week and up 7.4 percent from a year ago. Pork production was up 6.4 percent. Trading is expected to be very choppy with possible wide ranges.
