Zika-related stocks were surging higher on Monday following reports that the virus has spread to Singapore.

According to CNN, 41 cases of locally-transmitted Zika virus has been confirmed in the Asian country. Among those affected, seven patients are still showing signs of the virus, but the rest have fully recovered.

CNN quoted a statement from Singapore's Ministry of Health, which said the individuals "are not known to have traveled to Zika-affected areas recently" and are assumed to "have been infected in Singapore."

Reports of the disease being contracted in Asia helped boost shares of several companies involved in developing a cure of the disease.

4 Names On The Move

OraSure Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OSUR) recently won a six-year contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to speed up the development of oral test kits for the Zika virus. Its shares spiked more than 8 percent Monday morning.

Inovio Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: INO), a bio-pharmaceutical company which plans on completing testing of the Zika vaccine in mice and monkeys by the third quarter of this year, saw its stock gain more than 6 percent Monday morning.

Cerus Corporation (NASDAQ: CERS), a name that has been a top pick among some Wall Street analysts, gained nearly 2 percent Monday morning.

Opko Health Inc. (NASDAQ: OPK) gained more than 1 percent on Monday as the company has been reportedly working on a vaccine for the virus using technology that is emulated in flu vaccines.

On the other hand, shares of Intrexon Corp (NYSE: XON), a stock that has seen gains in the past on Zika-related headlines, fell more than 2 percent.
