Pitzer mentioned that the beat and raise was driven by robust Semi-custom and GPU, along with largely seasonal PCs.

Multiple Positives

The analyst also pointed out that there were several positive financial milestones during the quarter, such as C2Q was the second successive quarter of revenue and EPS upside, with year-on-year growth for the first time in seven quarters.

Other positives included the company reporting non-GAAP operating profit for the first time in five quarters, as well as gross cash of $1 billion achieving the target also for the first time in five quarters.

Outlook Is Positive, Too

Pitzer believes that AMD is likely to witness double digit year on year growth for the next three quarters, on average. The analyst also noted that the company guided to breakeven non-GAAP EPS for C3Q for the first time in six quarters.

“With a solid track record of execution building, Polaris still in the beginning stages of a broader product roll-out, 3 new Semi-custom wins ramping over the next 18 months and expectations for Zen beginning to ramp in 1H17… there are clearly additional drivers for further momentum,” Pitzer pointed out.

The CY16 EPS estimate has been raised from ($0.24) to ($0.21).
