Cigna Deal Uncertainty, Healthcare Exchange Concerns 'Overblown' For Anthem

"While uncertainty around the CIGNA Corporation (NYSE: CI) deal has weighed on Anthem Inc (NYSE: ANTM) shares of late, we believe concern around Exchanges has also held back the stock," Citi analyst Ralph Giacobbe reassured investors in a note Monday.

The analyst's claim followed a recent Citi state-by-state analysis that considered enrollment, pricing and STAT filings, as well as consideration of Anthem's network and market share positions.

"We view ANTM stock as attractive with or without the CI deal with shares currently trading at 12.2x 2016E EPS with fundamentals intact and any significant concerns around Exchange overblown," Giacobbe said.

Anthem shares remained a top pick at Citi as of Monday morning. Giacobbe maintained a Buy rating and $172 price target on shares of Anthem.
