Former attorney Michael Cohen expressed complete emotional detachment when he faced former President Donald Trump in a New York civil fraud trial.

What Happened: Cohen, in a CNN interview, revealed that he “felt absolutely nothing” during his face-to-face encounter with Trump.

"I was confused on how I was going to be," he said, adding, "And actually, I felt nothing. It was so weird that here I am, sitting directly across from Donald Trump, and I felt absolutely nothing."

"And then directly over his left shoulder was his son, Eric, who also I maintained a relationship with," he added.

"And I felt absolutely nothing. I looked at him, and I said to myself, boy, what a sad-looking, pathetic, deflated individual."

During the trial, Trump’s annoyance was palpable as he shook his head and gestured dramatically. Trump’s legal team frequently objected to Cohen’s responses. Trump publicly berated Cohen, labeling him a “SleazeBag” and accusing him of lying on the stand.

Why It Matters: Cohen is the key witness in a case led by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The case accuses Trump’s company of decades-long fraudulent activities, including asset value manipulation for tax and insurance advantages. Cohen’s previous revelations regarding Trump’s finances initiated the investigation, as stated by James.

Last week, Cohen's testimony was postponed due to health concerns. With his health issues resolved, Cohen's testimony, which is expected to span over two days, has begun.

Cohen’s testimony comes at a crucial time as Trump is slated to take the stand on Nov. 6.
