Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) publicly jousted with her colleague Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), inviting the Republicans to initiate a dialogue if they needed assistance from the Democrats.

What Happened: According to The Hill, this exchange took place on Friday via X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Ocasio-Cortez’s comments were in response to Lawler’s shared post from Rep. Pat Ryan (D-N.Y.), which called for Republicans to unify with Democrats.

Ocasio-Cortez critiqued her Republican colleagues, saying, “Take some personal responsibility for the fact that your party is a chaos factory.” She further commented on the GOP majority and invited a dialogue with the Democrats.

"You asked for a GOP majority, and this is what we get with one. If you want Dems to bail you out so badly, try talking. Line's open!"

This digital confrontation followed the removal of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his leadership role, with eight Republicans voting alongside Democrats in a 216-210 vote. McCarthy, prior to the vote, had stated he wouldn’t offer anything to Democrats to maintain his position.

Lawler had previously expressed his dissatisfaction with Democrats for not supporting McCarthy’s continuation as Speaker, accusing them of aligning with Matt Gaetz and the MAGA extremists.

The recent developments reflect the ongoing political turbulence and contentious relations between the parties in the House.
