"Cyberpunk 2077," the 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt ADR (OTC:OTGLY), recently achieved a milestone by selling more than 25 million units, surpassing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

This announcement was made during the CD Projekt Red Investor Day presentation, revealing a growth of five million units since September 2022.

Additionally, the Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 sold three million units in its first week.

Adam Kiciński, the president and CEO of CD Projekt Red, highlighted Cyberpunk 2077 reached this milestone in approximately two years and 10 months, outpacing The Witcher 3, which took around four years and seven months to reach 25 million units sold.

The Phantom Liberty expansion had the majority of its sales on PC (68%), followed by PlayStation 5 (20%) and Xbox Series X and S (13%). The development cost of the expansion was around 275 million Polish Zloty (approximately $62.7 million), with an additional 95 million Polish Zloty (around $21.6 million) spent on marketing.

Despite its troubled launch in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 received multiple updates, bug fixes, and even a successful Netflix anime adaptation, boosting its popularity.

The game's only planned DLC, Phantom Liberty, along with the free 2.0 update, was released to enthusiastic reviews and fans declared that the game was "saved."

In June, the Polish video game developer confirmed that it would be letting go of approximately 30 employees by year's end.
