Former President Donald Trump raised conjectures about his Republican rival, Governor Ron DeSantis, possibly withdrawing from the Presidential race.
What Happened: Trump stirred the political pot by sharing “rumors” on his social media platform Truth Social about DeSantis’ potential plans to leave the Presidential race and instead challenge Rick Scott for Senate in Florida.

The statements made by Trump were promptly debunked by DeSantis press secretary Bryan Griffin, who dismissed them as a feeble attempt at intimidation. “They know this is a two-man race, and we will carry this on to a win in this presidential primary,” Griffin said, according to the Huff Post.
Why It Matters: Despite Trump’s dominant lead in the polls, DeSantis has demonstrated resilience. As per polls, DeSantis is trailing slightly behind Trump.
However, an Emerson College poll indicates an increase in DeSantis' share of likely Republican voters from 10% to 12% after his participation in the first Republican presidential primary debate. On the other hand, Trump’s voter support dropped by 6% when he opted not to attend the debate.
