Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (OTC:SSNLF) announced the first game to support the HDR10 Plus Gaming standard is close to release.
The game in question is called The First Descendant, a free-to-play, third-person shooter developed by Nexon Co Ltd (OTC:NEXOF). An open beta for the game is set to start on Sept. 19, according to The Verge.

The key advantage of the HDR10 Plus Gaming standard is its ability to automatically calibrate brightness and colors based on the capabilities of the connected monitor or TV.
This feature aims to enhance highlight and shadow details and improve color accuracy. The calibration process eliminates the need for manual adjustments, typically involving sliders, to achieve optimal display settings.
The standard also offers low latency and compatibility with variable refresh rates.
Although Samsung's announcement doesn't specify the platforms on which the game will support HDR10 Plus Gaming, it's likely to be on PC due to the lack of support for this HDR format on Sony Group Corp.'s (NYSE:SONY) and Microsoft Corp.'s (NASDAQ:MSFT) consoles. Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) revealed in November 2022 that its RTX and 16-series graphics cards for PCs would support HDR10 Plus Gaming.
To benefit from this technology, users need both a compatible PC and an HDR10 Plus Gaming-compatible display. Samsung's high-end TVs and Odyssey gaming monitors already support this standard. Additionally, select Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), Panasonic Holdings Corp (OTC:PCRFY), TCL and Vizio TVs are also mentioned as compatible by Nvidia.
"This is a gaming milestone that goes beyond mere technological advancement; it represents Samsung’s continued commitment to enhance the gaming experience as technology evolves," Seokwoo Jason Yong, executive vice president of the visual display business at Samsung Electronics said in a blog post.
