During an interview with a popular Detroit radio station this morning, Quicken Loans founder and chairman and Cavs owner Dan Gilbert decided to
phone scam one of his assistants, Angel Price.Made famous by Spike from the radio show
Mojo In The Morning, a phone scam is essentially a clever prank designed to tease the person on the other line. Today, Spike was tasked with making Price believe that her dog, Bookie, had caused some mayhem at a Metro Detroit daycare center for dogs.Spike called Angel and pretended to be a concerned employee from the daycare center. "There was an issue with some aggressive behavior this week," he said. "I'm sure you heard what happened." Not surprisingly, Angel had not.Spike claimed that Bookie "bit another dog," creating a big scene that ultimately led to a complaint from the other dog's 'high-profile' owner, who wanted Bookie to be banned from the daycare center."The bottom line is that once there's an outburst, we have to take action," Spike insisted. Price was concerned but agreed with the daycare's decision. After Spike realized that she had been completely fooled by the phone scam, he asked where Bookie was, adding that he wanted to talk to him. At this point, Price finally began to figure out that this might be a scam."Is this a phone scam?" she inquired. "Is this a joke!?"Spike finally revealed the truth, to which Price -- clearly a big fan of Mojo In The Morning -- burst into laughter."You didn't put two and two together that we're hanging out with you guys and phone scamming you?" Spike asked. The Mojo In The Morning crew taped the show live from one of Gilbert's Detroit properties on Woodward Avenue. They came there to celebrate
Downtown Detroit Days, an event designed to give the locals a peak at the future of retail in the city. With events like these, it is clear that Gilbert's efforts to revive Detroit are having a significant impact on the city. But remember -- no one is safe from this prankster's funny antics.
