AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) announced on Tuesday that the telecommunications company would invest $1 billion to upgrade and extend its business network and support the growing number of mobile computing devices, which are driving traffic away from voice and towards video and data.
The $1 billion investment is on top of more than $3 billion AT&T Inc. has already invested upgrading its systems and services since 2006.
The investments made by AT&T have included laying more undersea cable to improve international data flow capacity, raising U.S. broadband speeds and improving the company's mobile broadband capabilities.
AT&T is also looking into getting in on the cloud computing craze by managing software applications for its corporate clients and storing their data on AT&T servers.
