Dozens Of Retired Wrestlers Are Now Suing WWE

Bloomberg
reported late Monday afternoon that dozens of retired wrestlers, including Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka and the lead plaintiff, Joseph "The Road Warrior Animal" Laurinaitis, are suing
World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.WWE
.

The lawsuit alleges that WWE hid the long-term effects of neurological injuries associated with years of action in and out of the wrestling ring. Specifically, the Stamford, Connecticut-based entertainment company failed to adequately treat its wrestlers' head injuries "in any medically competent or meaningful manner."

The suit added that WWE "placed corporate gain over its wrestlers' health, safety and financial security, choosing to leave the plaintiffs severely injured and with no recourse to treat their damaged minds and bodies."

Specifically, the suit alleges WWE ignored and hid information about neurological conditions, including Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.

In a statement to Bloomberg, WWE claimed the lawsuit was initiated by a lawyer who has a history of making false allegations against the company, and it is confident the case will be dismissed.

"This is another ridiculous attempt by the same attorney who has previously filed class action lawsuits against WWE, both of which have been dismissed," Bloomberg quoted the statement as saying. "A federal judge has already found that this lawyer made patently false allegations about WWE, and this is more of the same."

The case is Laurinaitis v. World Wrestling Entertainment Inc., 3:16-cv-01209, U.S. District Court, District of Connecticut (New Haven.)

At time of writing, shares of WWE were trading down 2.83 percent on the day at $19.60.
