Elon Musk Making More Headlines Ahead Of Thursday's Conference

Elon Musk, the outspoken CEO of Tesla Motors Inc TSLA on Tuesday addressed the debate on self-driving cars, tweeting, "To be clear, Tesla is strongly in favor of people being allowed to drive their cars and always will be. Hopefully, that is obvious."

"However, when self-driving cars become safer than human-driven cars, the public may outlaw the latter. Hopefully not," the second tweet said.

However, this doesn't mean that his company will stand by idly if there is a widespread shift to self driving cars. In recent reports, Musk said that the evidence is overwhelming that autonomous cars will be both safer and more efficient than human driven cars. The biggest challenge will not be driving on high speed highways -- it will be navigating city streets, along with adhering to traffic signals and stop signs.

"It would be like an elevator. They used to have elevator operators, and then we developed some simple circuitry to have elevators just automatically come to the floor that you're at ... the car is going to be just like that," he told Nvidia's CEO Jen-Hsun Huang at the company's annual developers conference.

Tesla will hold a conference Thursday morning that Musk said will address his company putting an end to range anxiety.

Shares of Tesla closed Tuesday at $194.73.
