Twitter Inc TWTR co-founder Jack Dorsey on Thursday tweeted in support of Twitter’s CEO Costolo

The tweet read, "10/As for @dickc, our cofounder @ev rightly pointed out there isn't a single person who has been thinking longer about Twitter than @dickc."

Kara Swisher, Re/code co-executive editor, was on CNBC to discuss why Twitter’s co-founders are coming in support of Costolo.

"Well, I think, I tried to get them all to talk on the record supporting him, which was interesting. I was like I'll write a story, I want to hear what you have to say and none of them would go on the record saying that," Swisher said. "So, I think they are using Twitter, which is their means of communications in lots of ways."

"If you have noticed, they announce a lot of stuff through Twitter. Peter Currie, a very important board member of Twitter did that several weeks ago. It obviously wasn't enough and so they have one of the more high-profile people, the founders, talking about how much they support."

Activist Shareholders Preying?

"I think their worry is that an activist shareholder would get in here. I have been working on a story about whether that's a possibility. It's a common stock, it doesn’t have a dual class stock and so that's a problematic situation for them," Swisher said.

How Soon Could It Happen?

"A lot of these CEOs are under siege. First, Tim Armstrong was at AOL, then Marissa has been at Yahoo… I think it all depends on next week's results; if growth is there, if the advertising is there, if they are showing a little more innovative approach to their product, I think it probably depends on that," Swisher replied.
