If Apple Can Target The Chinese Market, Chinese Companies Can Target The U.S. Market

Apple Inc. AAPL has always viewed the Chinese market as a significant growth driver given the sheer size of the ever-growing market.

On the other hand, Chinese smartphone manufacturers don't view the U.S. market as a notable growth venue since their brands are relatively unfamiliar with Americans. This doesn't mean that Chinese smartphone manufacturers won't make a push into the U.S. market.

According to Recode, China-based Huawei announced it will sell the Honor 8 in the United States. Highlights of the $399 smartphone include an all-glass casing, a dual-lens rear camera and a strong chip made by its subsidiary, HiSilicon.

The phone itself appears to be a beast, at least according to Digital Trends, which said the sub-$400 phone should "make Samsung nervous." The phone appearance to be "subtle," but its "hardware is anything but."

How To Win The U.S. Market

Recode's report noted that Huawei is a "huge established player" in China, as it has sold 60 million Honor devices. However, it will be a hard task to sell a large number of devices in the United States since it needs to convince consumers to buy phones from someone other than their mobile carrier.

"The move to bring Honor to the U.S. reflects a continued, if perhaps unreasonable, belief that the company can have a serious business in Apple's home country," Recode noted.

As if it wasn't complicated enough, Huawei is currently involved in a legal tie up with T-Mobile US Inc TMUS. T-Mobile alleges that Huawei's engineers spied on its corporate laboratories to gain intelligence and data on its phone-testing robots.

As such, Huawei has "yet to make a dent" in the U.S. market. Nevertheless, the Chinese firm remains undaunted and certainly has the resources and willpower to one day change its status in the United States.
