With the launch of gadgets like Apple Inc’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPad and Amazon.com Inc’s (NASDAQ: AMZN) Kindle, Microsoft Corp's (NASDAQ: MSFT) ability to churn out any innovations is being called into question. Why is Microsoft simply restricted to upgrades like Windows 7? The answer lies with Microsoft itself.
There is a lot of internal warfare between the various departments of Microsoft. Bill Gates, in order to make the managers of each of these divisions competitive and efficient, fostered a lot of inter department competition. The result of this was that the departments strangled each other’s innovations.
It’s Clear Type Display technology never hit the market because of these internal fights. Microsoft Office applications like word and excel never underwent modifications because of the same reason. This is not the end of Microsoft’s failure either. All its executives in charge of music, e-books, phone, online search and tablet efforts over the past decade have left the organization.
