"Too Big To Fail" Is Bailout Worthy

I watched "Too Big to Fail" last night, and I have to say that the HBO movie was much better than expected, and it gives a mostly accurate depiction of what happened during the 2008 financial crisis. The movie, taken from Andrew Ross Sorkin's best-seller, was able to depict the major players during the crisis, such as Lehman Brothers CEO Dick Fuld, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, former Morgan Stanley CEO John Mack, and U.S. Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson. I thought the two best performances were William Hurt, who played Paulson, and Paul Giamatti, who undertook Bernanke with great care. Paulson and Bernanke were too of the more active members of the government during the crisis, and their roles were clearly explained with great detail. Whether you think Paulson and Bernanke were heroic or not is a different story, but the actors that undertook them took great care in portraying them. The film was direct by Curtis Hanson, of "L.A. Confidential" fame isn't a 100% accurate depiction of what happened, but Paulson and Bernanke's characters were the best part of the movie, and make the movie certainly worth watching. One of the funnier parts of the movie, perhaps not intentionally, was when Paulson dropped to his knees in front of Nancy Pelosi in Congress, begging her to get the bailouts approved. The bending down on one knee in front of the most powerful Democrat was a sign of true helplessness from Wall Street, and the desperation that was being felt by both Main Street and Wall Street alike at the time. I would give this made-for-TV movie a solid "B" grade. It's not one of the greatest TV movies ever made, that's for sure, but for a movie depicting such a horrible and depressing time in our country, Hanson delivers the goods. What did you think of the movie?
