10 Extremely Unusual Startup Tips

What do Ashton Kutcher and Charlie Sheen have to do with launching a startup!? They're both players who made millions starring in the same CBS CBS comedy, Two and a Half Men. One went crazy and forever ruined his relationship with the nation's largest TV network. The other didn't (not yet at least). But if you're baffled as to how these two actors could factor into the world of startups, don't feel bad. While it is widely known that Kutcher is an investor in a large number of young companies, we can only imagine how and where Sheen would choose to invest. The Moonlite BunnyRanch, perhaps? Like ‘em or loathe ‘em, the two actors have made an appearance in Ingo Hinterding's 10 unusual tips for aspiring entrepreneurs. Hinterding is the Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Crowdpark, a social betting company that's willing to gamble with its players. “The founders of Crowdpark have a background in data analytics and created the algorithm around our dynamic betting technology based on electronic prediction markets,” said Hinterding. “We started as a social forecasting company, and realized quickly the potential of applying this technology to social games on Facebook. No one had made a social betting game before, so we saw an opportunity to bring predictions to social games. Our first game, Bet Tycoon, allows for bets of any kind on Facebook. We have used [what we learned] from Bet Tycoon to develop our new games.” Hinterding said that while Crowdpark remains dedicated to its “mission of pioneering social betting games, we feel that casino games are a logical expansion of our games portfolio as betting and casino games are so closely related.” “Moreover, betting and casino games have complementary demographics as betting is male-dominated and casino games are female-dominated,” he added. Hinterding's top 10 tips for aspiring entrepreneurs are as follows:
  1. “Having Ashton Kutcher as an investor always helps. ;)”
  2. “But having Charlie Sheen as an investor would be even better and more fun.”
  3. “Innovation is important, but execution is key.”
  4. “Burn money wisely.”
  5. “Get a great PR person.”
  6. “Simplicity is key.”
  7. “Think internationally.”
  8. “Only hire A-level people (if you can afford it).”
  9. “Share with your community.”
  10. “Move to Berlin.”
