The Best Performing FANG Stock This Year Was...

Tech giants Facebook Inc FB, Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN, Netflix, Inc. NFLX and Alphabet Inc GOOG GOOGL, collectively known as “FANG,” have been four of the top-performing stocks in the market in recent years. In fact, from 2013 to 2016, all of the FANG stocks more than doubled in price, led by Netflix’s incredible +770 percent surge.

Just last year, Amazon and Netflix were the top two stocks in the entire S&P 500.

FANG's 2016

While 2016 hasn’t been quite as impressive of a year for the FANG group as recent years have been, all four stocks continued their slow march higher this year. Amazon and Netflix got off to a very bumpy start to the year, both falling more than 25 percent in the opening weeks of 2016. However, all four stocks are now poised to finish the year with modest gains.

Amazon is the leader of the FANG group for 2016. The e-commerce juggernaut delivered another year of impressive growth and a 12.8 percent market gain.

Facebook was not far behind, up 11.3 percent in 2016.

Netflix was down on the year as recently as the fourth quarter before mounting a year-end comeback and pushing to +8.9 percent in 2016.

Google was the lone market laggard among the FANG stocks. The stock managed just a 2.8 percent gain compared to a +8.9 percent year for the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust SPY.
