Toray to Make Air Bag Foundation Cloth in Mexico

Tokyo, July 28 (Jiji Press)--Toray Industries Inc. (TYO:3402) said Thursday that it will spend some 10 billion yen on a plant in Mexico to make nylon fiber and foundation cloth for air bags. Production, totaling 10,000 tons a year, is scheduled to start in March 2018. The Japanese chemical maker plans to meet demand from air bag manufacturers in Mexico, which has been growing rapidly as a vehicle production base. Toray has around 20 pct of the worldwide market for air bag foundation cloth and aims to have the largest share by 2020.Copyright JIJI PRESS LTD.
