The major averages traded in a tight range on Monday, with the Dow posting a small loss while the S&P and Nasdaq rose. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 5 points to finish at 12,268. The widely watched blue-chip average traded in a range between 12,236 and 12,276. The SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSE: SPY) added 0.24% to close at $133.43. Volume was extremely light with only 92 million SPY shares trading hands versus a 3-month daily average of around 145 million. The PowerShares QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ: QQQQ), which tracks the performance of the Nasdaq 100, gained 0.24% to $58.58. Volume on the Q's was also lighter than normal.
