The Dow fell 1.16 percent to 18,111.74, while the NASDAQ composite index declined 1.11 percent to 5,154.08. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 1.38 percent to 2,129.30.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Synthetics: This industry slipped 2.8 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Lightbridge Corp (NASDAQ: LTBR), which fell 1.5 percent. Lightbridge shares have dropped 61.55 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has increased 10.55 percent in the same period.
  • Foreign Money Center Banks: This industry declined 2.5 percent by 11:00 am with Westpac Banking Corp (ADR) (NYSE: WBK) moving down 3.7 percent. Westpac Banking’s PEG ratio is 4.13.
  • Nonmetallic Mineral Mining: This industry fell 2.4 percent by 11:00 am ET. SunCoke Energy Inc (NYSE: SXC) shares dropped 6.7 percent in today's trading. SunCoke Energy shares have declined 29.88 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 10.55 percent in the same period.
  • Cement: The industry dropped 2.3 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Cemex SAB de CV (ADR) (NYSE: CX), which declined 4 percent.
