CVS Health To Boost Access To FDA-approved Nasal Naloxone For Patients Without Insurance

CVS Health Inc. (NYSE: CVS) and Adapt Pharma today revealed a fresh alliance to make the opioid overdose-reversing drug NARCAN Nasal Spray more affordable for patients without insurance at CVS Pharmacy locations. According to the company, with the help of this alliance, its Pharmacy patients buying NARCAN Nasal Spray without insurance would get a discount of $35 discount coupon to buy the medication. That reduces the out-of-pocket cost by nearly 25 percent.

The company stated NARCAN Nasal Spray is the first and only FDA-approved, ready-to-use nasal formulation of naloxone for the emergency treatment of opioid overdose. The retailer added that the drug would be available in a convenient box of two units (each unit delivers a concentrated 4mg dose of active medication-naloxone hydrochloride- in a .1ml mist) for immediate use if there is any such requirement.

CVS Health indicated its naloxone program established a standing order with a physician permitting its Pharmacists to dispense naloxone to patients without an individual prescription. The company added that it would make this life-saving medication more accessible to CVS Pharmacy patients by August end.

VP of Pharmacy Professional Practices, Tom Davis, commented, "Having a ready-to-use dose of naloxone in a nasal spray device makes administration of this life-saving medication quick and easy for friends and families of loved ones struggling with addiction in an emergency overdose situation."

On Friday, the stock edged down by $0.62 or 0.66 percent at $92.78.
