Facebook Inc (NASDAQ: FB)'s stock has surged nearly 220 percent since its initial public offering in 2012. Part of the reason for the stock's success is the fact that the company has earned a reputation of consistently exceeding expectations.

In fact, Facebook has only missed its earnings estimates once since 2012. The earnings miss occurred in the first quarter of fiscal 2013 when its earnings per share of $0.12 fell short of expectations by a cent.
