DISH Introduces New Voice Remote

DISH Network Corp. (NASDAQ: DISH) revealed the launch of its Voice Remote throughout the nation. It would feature voice recognition, a clickable touchpad and backlighting. The company said that this remote controlled navigation, search and content selection on Hopper 3, as well as, 4K Joey set-top boxes.DISH said that its Voice Remote is currently available to its customers for $30 throughout the country. The company added that with the capacity to serve as a universal remote, its Voice Remote could control a maximum of two IR devices (TV/AUX models). Its new and existing Hopper 3 and 4K Joey customers could buy the Voice Remote.The company's EVP and CTO, Vivek Khemka, said, "Voice Remote is simple to use, affordable and, most impressively, operates with incredible speed and accuracy. Leveraging modern navigation paradigms like touch and voice, this remote represents a complete reinvention of the outdated remote control customers have come to expect from cable providers."The cable firm said that its Voice Remote featured two touchpad modes. While the default displays a blank touchpad enabling navigation tasks the other numeric mode illuminates a keypad when channel or password entry is preferred.DISH said that it designed the remote to understand natural language, populating search results based on program title, actor or genre, and building contextual searches to narrow options, as desired. On Thursday, shares of the company edged up by 0.48 percent.
